Keith L. Gibbs

Keith Laverne Gibbs, age 86, of Cadillac, passed away on April 9, 2018, at the Curry House Assisted Living in Cadillac. He was born on February 2, 1932, in Auburn Heights to William Hersel and Beulah May (Gay) Gibbs. After Keith finish school, he served in the U. S. Airforce during the Korean War. After a while, he was honorably discharged due to illness. Upon returning home, Keith worked with his father doing masonry work and other odd jobs. He then met and married Elizabeth Anne Herweyer on March 27, 1954, in Auburn Heights. Keith began working for Church’s Lumberyard, he also worked for Michigan Bell Telephone Company and was a janitor at the Presbyterian Church in Auburn Heights. After a while, he got a job at Beaver Precision Tool & Dye in Troy, Michigan where he went back and got his GED and other special training for the job. Keith retired in 1974 where upon he and the family moved to Falmouth, Michigan. Keith and Liz lived many wonderful years in Falmouth where he joined the Traverse City chapter of Barber Shoppers where he and his brother Gene sag together.  He loved to tinker in the garage, and was an avid walker. He is survived by his five children, Keith E. (Darlene) Gibbs of Great Falls, Montana, Kathleen E. (Larry) Sedrowski of Midland, Curtis B. Gibbs, Mary B. (Bruce) McNally of McBain and Brian W. (JoAnn) Gibbs of Lanoka Harbor, New Jersey. There are seventeen grandchildren surviving, Keith B. (Mandy) Gibbs, Chad (Angilee) Gibbs, and Zachary Gibbs, Jason Sedrowski (Vanessa Wagner), Marcus Sedrowski (Heather), Alexandra (Joseph) Sedrowski-Timmer, Samantha Raycovitz (Tim), Gabrielle Sedrowski (C.J.), Dominic Sedrowski, Connie (Jack) Morris, Joshua (Kiley) Gibbs, Erin (Matt) Paull, Blanche Pena, Becky (Jeremy) Rodenbaugh and William Gibbs, as well as 17 Great Grandchildren. Keith is survived by his loving brother, Richard Gibbs of Auburn Hills and sister in-law Helen Gibbs of Falmouth. In-laws surviving are, Ursula Herweyer of McBain, Lawrence L. (JoAnn) Herweyer of Clawson, Helen Sue Robbins of Auburn Hills, and Bonnie (Jim) McHale of Clawson, also many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers, Eugene Gibbs, and Duane (June) Gibbs as well as sister in-laws, Margaret Joyce Gibbs, Mary Dee Oakes and Diane W. (Jim) Green and a brother in-law, Edward (Sonny) Herweyer, as well as 2 grandchildren, Bruce and Nathan McNally. The family would like to say a special thank you to the Curry House of Cadillac for the wonderful care of their father. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 16, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at the Burkholder Family Funeral Home in McBain. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the Riverside Township Cemetery. A luncheon will be held after burial at the funeral home. My dearest sympathy and prayers for comfort goes out to the McNally family. Keith was a great guy and will be greatly missed. I enjoyed caring for him and listening to all his stories. He was a true fighter.
