Obituary For Margie Mae Low

Margie Mae Low age 90 of Merritt, it is with a sad and heavy heart we share that our precious momma has passed into the arms of Jesus and united with her sweet heart, Ken Low, who passed away this past April. They were married on June 19, 1954 at the Merritt United Methodist Church. Margie was born on December 18, 1934 in Butterfield Township to Hartley and Luta (Goodwin) Davis. Margie was a big personality and had a bigger heart. Everyone was a friend and she adopted many bonus children over the years. She is best known for her antics involving dressing up as a bag lady and bringing her kids a disgusting sack lunch to school. Her greatest love was her Lord and Savior, her husband of 70 years, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Margie is survived by her daughters; Laurie Marie Rhodes, Michele J. Fox, and Ida (Carl) VandenBoss, grandkids; Brooke (Ken) Arenouts, Emillee (Drew) Wilson,, Aqua Wilson, Taylor (Nick) Crane, Kenneth (Melanie) VandenBoss, Derrick VandenBoss, 3 step grands; Alice Rhodes, Patrick Rhodes, and Cathryn Rhodes, great grands; Chase, Bella, Bear, Brie, Juniper, Oliver, Blayke, Holland, Sam, Nora, Julian, and Job, brother-in-law; Leon Low and sister-in-law; Bonnie Davis, and many other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Hartley and Luta (Goodwin) Davis, sister; Bonnie (Bill) Hughston, brothers-in-law; Hartley (LaVonne) Davis and Alfred Davis.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring. Burial will take place in the Holland Township Cemetery East. Margie Mae lived out her life and was an inspiration to all she met. She lived life with no regrets and we are left with only sweet memories.

We have nothing but fond memories of Margie Mae (Davis) Low. It was always fun, and we do mean fun, to visit Margie and Ken whether it be at their home or their cabin on the river. My Dad, Buck Goodwin, and Margie Davis were 1st cousins. Margie and Buck each had three siblings. Buck's siblings were Bob, Jack and Bill. Margie's siblings were Junior, Alfred and Bonnie. They all grew up in Merritt, Michigan. With Margie's passing they are all gone now and I'd like to think they are joking and playing again in Heaven. What might not be known is that my Mom also had met and known Margie since childhood. My Mom, being a Modders, visited the Merritt area often in her childhood and was best friends with Margie's sister Bonnie. My Granddad, Ernest Modders, had also known the Davis family since his childhood days of living in Merritt and Moddersville for a time growing up. Our families had known the Davis family for a number of years prior to Margie's Mom (Luta Goodwin) and Dad (Harley Davis) getting married. Mom tells the story of her and Bonnie building a cabin on the Davis farm property as kids during one of the visits to the farm. Needing more nails to finish the cabin, it was Margie that was told to go get more nails at the farm house and return to the cabin site with those nails to make sure they could finish the cabin. When Mom ask Bonnie why she had sent Margie away to the farm house to get nails Bonnie replied "Well, we only have 2 bottles of soda pop!" Dad, during his last few years of high school in Merritt, actually lived with the Davis family on the farm when his parents moved out of town for a time in the 1940's. Margie would have been the youngest of the kids in the house that Luta and Hartley had to tend to including my Dad. We remember with fondness being greeted at the check-in gate at Cow Camp during rodeo weekend by Margie as she monitored the entrance to the camp. She insisted that we come to her little travel trailer that she was staying in that week at camp to see her little dog "fe-fe". When the back door of the little trailer opened it was to our surprise that "little" "fe-fe" was in fact this gigantic, so it seemed, dog that looked us right in the eye, he was so large. We all laughed. There were lots of laughs with Margie in the house. She brightened Goodwin reunions over the years with her attendance and wonderful disposition. When we would stop at their home, it was always a great time of visiting and reminiscing. Margie would feed us and Ken would be kind enough to share a tour of his keepsakes and antiques around the house. Our love to all. The Goodwin's; Donna (Modders) Goodwin and son Rick Goodwin

Well written! I didn't know Margie well but I've heard what a hoot she was. She's standing proud of her family in heaven with your dad. And just as happy as can be to be together and whole again without any sickness or pain...they are watching you all from up above!!!! I have no doubt!
