Lewis Paul Sweet, age 86 of McBain, Michigan, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Born on September 9, 1939, in McBain to Paul and Willma Sweet. Lewis lived a life defined by devotion, kindness, and integrity.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. Lewis is survived by his wife Patrecia, with whom he shared more than 65 years of marriage, a bond that was a testament to enduring love and commitment.
Lewis is also survived by his daughter Karen Fauble of Florida, his son Michael Sweet (Judy) of McBain, and his grandchildren Derek Fauble of McBain, Max Sweet of Florida, and Abby Dick (Tyler) of McBain. He was blessed with great grandchildren Sadie and Ellie Dick, who brought him immense joy. He is further survived by his sisters Virginia King (Sid) and Carol Hoekwater (Raymond), and by his sister-in-law Elinor Sweet, wife of his late brother Carl Sweet, along with his extended family who loved him dearly.
Lewis dedicated 39 years of service to the Missaukee County Road Commission before retiring. He was also involved in the seed business for over 40 years, building lasting relationships within the agricultural community. In retirement, he pursued his passion for restoring John Deere tractors, a hobby that reflected his love of craftsmanship and tradition.
He was a proud member of the Buckley Old Engine Steam Show, served for many years with the McBain Fire Department, and was a devoted member of the McBain Baptist Church, where he faithfully served in all aspects of ministry.
Over the past decade, Lewis enjoyed spending winters in Florida, where he started a coffee group that became a cherished part of his life. A special thank you goes out to his dear friends at Scooples, whose companionship meant so much to him.
Lewis will be remembered for his spirit, his devotion to family, his strong work ethic, and his unwavering faith.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 30, from 5:00 P.M. -7:00 P.M. at the Burkholder Family Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, December 31, at the McBain Baptist Church, with Pastor Doug Smith officiating. There will be a luncheon following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan or the McBain Baptist Church.
