Obituary For Kevin Gerald Sherman

Kevin Gerald Sherman, age 62 of Sears, passed away unexpectedly on October 26, 2024 at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Born to Jerry and Marilyn Sherman, Kevin lived a life full of love and laughter. He cherished every moment spent with his beloved grandchildren- Cole, Mason, and Lane- who brought him immeasurable joy. Kevin was immensely proud of his three grandsons. Kevins love and pride also extended to his children Travis (Samantha) Sherman, and Casey (Nate) Green; his family was the center of his universe.

A passionate outdoorsman, Kevin found solace hunting, each year from october1 to December 31 he could be found in his deer blind or practicing with his bow in the barn. He was recently lining up a shot on a doe with his bow, but then seeing a magnificent 6-point buck appear behind her, decided to wait passing up the buck for return during gun season to share that buck with his grandson- an unforgettable moment he looked forward to sharing with Mason that showcased his patience and love for the sport and his family.

Kevin was known for his incredible work ethic, dedicating himself tirelessly from dawn to dusk. He spent many years milking cows before transitioning to help friends at the junkyard, where he joked, he could now “get paid to break things”. His humor and spirit were contagious, and he always brought joy to those around him.

In his later years, Kevin developed a passion for gardening, creating a beautiful flower garden that he loved to share with others. He took great pleasure in picking flowers and delivering them to friends in need of a little cheer. His culinary skills were equally impressive, he delighted in making delicious desserts, often whipping up his famous peanut butter pie without a recipe.

Kevins wife Linda remembers “a big joke between him and I was our friends always asking, ‘how did you put up with this crazy man for so many years, you must be a saint!’ But truly he was a saint putting up with me. Recently he was out back hunting and I texted him to ask if he would help me move chicken feed from the box he made to the barrels we stored feed in, of course he said yes! He might have grumbled sometimes but he would have done anything for me. This summer we went on new adventures together in our camper, spending nights away from the farm. We took the boys up to Traverse City to stay at Travis and Sam’s house, then we went with Casey and Nate and the boys to the U.P. for a week. We ended our trip in Mackinac City where Kevin enjoyed the day zip lining and hiking up Castle Rock. It was nice doing things as a family.

Kevin leaves behind his loving wife, Linda Sherman; his son, Travis (Samantha) Sherman, and daughter Casey (Nate) Green; and his grandchildren, Cole, Mason, Lane and a new grandchild due in April. He is also survived by his sisters LouAnn (Pat) Norris, Roberta (Donald) Lindsey, Tina (Randy) McKay, brother in-law Dave (Charity) Clark, and many cousins, nieces and nephews and countless friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Jerry and Marilyn Sherman, as well as him mother and father in-law Alpha and Marlene Clark.

Kevin was a unique soul who brought laughter and joy into the lives of those around him. He had an extraordinary ability to tease, make others laugh, and sometimes drive Linda a little crazy, but his love and spirit will be cherished forever. As Linda reflects on their 40 years marriage, she knows that he is now in a better place, watching over all of them. Kevin you will be missed everyday for the rest of our lives, until we meet again, see you later, we love you.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday at the Sears Church of God with Rev. Steve Boven officiating. Visitation will be held from Noon until the time of service at the church. A lunch will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the family. The family is being served by the Burkholder Family Funeral Home in McBain, thoughts and prayers can be expressed by visiting the online obituary at burkholderfamilyfuneralhome.com
