Kathleen Shirley Boven age 90 of McBain passed away at Quiet Creek Adult Foster Care in Falmouth on November 18, 2023. Shirley was born on July 22, 1933 in Detroit to Tony and Susan (Hoekwater) Dick. She married Tom Boven on September 25, 1953 at the Prosper Christian Reformed Church and he preceded her in death on June 24, 2006.

Shirley was a Nurse’s Aid at the Cadillac Mercy Hospital for over 20 years and retired in 2001. She was a member of the Highland Christian Reformed Church, the Mr. & Mrs. Club, taught Sunday School, was a member of the Northern Michigan Christian School Booster Club, loved doing quilting for charity purposes and gardening. She also enjoyed cooking, baking and canning.

Shirley is survived by her children; Jerry (Angie) Boven of Falmouth, Jan (Paul) Rivera of McBain, and Nancy Boven of McBain. Her grandchildren are; Mike Boven, DeNay (Greg) Tossey, Kevin Boven, Miquel (Alisa) Rivera, Reuben (Kenda) Rivera, and Isaiah Rivera, 17 great grandchildren, and sisters-in-law; Jeanette Dick of Falmouth and Ruth Bazuin of McBain.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Kerwin Dick, Ivan (Lillian) Dick, in-laws; Maureen Leach, Dorothy (Ed) Kroes, Harold Bazuin, Gladys (Jerry) Huttenga, Dick Boven, Henrietta (Henry) DeRuiter, Mike (Helen) Boven, Nancy (Wes) VanHaitsma, Jerry Boven, Kay (Doc) Mustee, Joanne (Ken) Meyer, and Genevieve Boven.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at the Highland Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Mark and Rev. Ashley Bonnes officiating with burial in the Highland Hillside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00P.M. and 7:00 P.M. on Monday at the church and one hour prior to funeral services on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Northern Michigan Christian School.
