John C. Ebels age 87 of Big Rapids passed away on December 4, 2025 at Intersect Facility in Big Rapids. John was born on April 26, 1938 in Kalamazoo to John and Grace (Zuiderveen) Ebels. He married Muriel Jean VanderWal at the McBain Christian Reformed Church on November 11, 1966.

John was a member of the Lee Christian Reformed Church in Wyoming. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and reading. He had worked at Dexter Lock and Yamaha in Grand Rapids and retired in 2007.

He is survived by his wife Muriel of Big Rapids, children; Dawn Scott) King of South Carolina and John Ebels of Stanwood, sister; Karen (Brad) VanHaitsma of Falmouth, in-laws; Diane (Sidney) Kuipers of Zeeland, Nick (Deanna) VanderWal of Grand Rapids and Don Shaarda of McBain.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings; Shirley (Ken) Mulder, Judith (Walter) Goodwin and Harold (Bernice) Ebels, sister-in-law; Joyce Shaarda.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, December 15, at 1:00 P.M. at the Burkholder Family Funeral Home in McBain and visitation will be an hour before services. Reverend Steven DeVries will officiate. Burial will take place in the Falmouth Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Burkholder Family Funeral Home in McBain.
