Jerry Lynn Taylor went to his Heavenly home on February 12, 2025 at his home with his family by his side, he was 83. Jerry was born to Clayton and Katie (Elenbaas) Taylor on November 14, 1941 at his parent’s home in Lucas, MI. He married Louise Brunink on November 1, 1963 at the Lucas Christian Reformed Church.
During his 7th and 8th grade years he was a page for the Michigan Senate. He worked as a meat cutter and also owned several gas stations in the area before starting Jerry Taylor and Sons in 1982 and worked with his two sons before retiring at age 72. He enjoyed playing sports but especially pitching fastpitch softball. He started pitching in his late teens and played into his early 50’s including many years with his sons. Even into his later years you could find him at the Lucas ballfields hitting grounders to his grandkids. Jerry also umpired and refereed high school games for 30 years and also many summer league games. He loved playing Yahtzee and playing cards (at the coffee shop) and cheering on the U of M sports teams and the Tigers. He was a member of the Rehoboth Reformed Church in Lucas.
Jerry is survived by his wife Louise Taylor of Lucas, sons Kevin (Carolynn) Taylor of Cadillac, and Marc (Sharon) Taylor of Marion, grandkids, Allen Wilhelm of Manistee, Lucas (Lexie) Taylor of McBain, Logan Taylor of Grand Rapids, and Megan (Jeremiah) Wordeman of Colorado, great-grandkids, Charlotte and Matilda, cousin Billy Taylor, in-laws; Hankie Taylor of McBain, Kay (Rog) Ouwinga of Cadillac, Don Brunink of Ludington, Sharon (Tony) Ricci of Colorado, Sandy (Max) Krouse of Colorado, Mel (Karen) Brunink of Rockford, Sally (Steve) VanderZyl of Florida, and Marilyn (Darrell) DeRuiter of White Cloud, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents Clayton and Katie, siblings Catherine (Ray) Schepers, Marge (Ivan) Quist, Jim Taylor, Robert (Bonnie) Taylor, Vernon (Pearl) Taylor, Lawrence (Betty) Taylor, Sharon Taylor, and Mae (Al) Pluger.
Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Monday, February 17, 2025 at the Rehoboth Reformed Church in Lucas with Pastor Kathy Vana officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday from 2-4PM and one hour prior to the service on Monday. A luncheon will follow the service at the church on Monday and interment will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made out to the Steuhower Clinic in Cadillac. The family would like to give a special thank-you to Hospice of Michigan, Barb Scholten and Sheryl Hoekstra for the care given to Jerry.
