Obituary For Fredrick Henry Hower

Fredrick Henry Hower age 86 of Marion passed away at his home surrounded by his family on July 27, 2025. He was born on November 28, 1938 in Marion to John and Edna Pearl (Hopkins) Hower. He married Nancy Lynne Petchauer on September 15, 1961 in Lansing.

In 1984 Fred became a born again Christian and became a member of the Marion Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon, taught Sunday School, and worked with the youth of the church for many years. The big thing in Fred’s life was helping others when they were in need, He also, enjoyed being a hobby farmer, when he wasn’t inviting a mob of people in for a meal. Usually without any notice.

He is survived by his wife Nancy Lynne Hower of Marion, children; Larry Hower and his special friend Sandy Maleitzka of Marion and Leigh A. Hower of Grand Rapids, grandson; Brian Hower of Marion, 4 great grandchildren; Kwyn, Charlei, Henry, and Rowan Hower, siblings; Betty Fox of Marion, Evelyn Peterson of Fowler, Dale (Sherri) Hower of Marion and in-laws; Leonard Gregg of Marion and Carole (David) Segelstrom of California, and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings; John (Dorothy) Hower, Bill (Sherry) Hower, and Shirley Gregg, in-laws; Dale Peterson, Joe Fox, and Michael Petchauer, father-in-law and mother-in-law; Leo and Doris Petchauer.

Funeral services will be held at Noon on August 9th at the Marion Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Williams officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until time of service. A luncheon will follow at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to Dr. Sergei Schumaster’s office in Memory of Fred Hower for a special equipment purchase, Marion Baptist Church, or Munson Hospice. The family would like to thank Dr. Sergei Schumaster and staff at the Family Practice of Cadillac for their excellent and compassionate care they gave him. End care services were provided by Munson Hospice.
