Eleanor Mae Bosscher, 92 went to her eternal home on Saturday July 6, 2024.
She was born May 1, 1932 in the town of Lucas to Harry and Gladys (Toering) Ellens.
After graduating from Northern Michigan Christian High School, she attended nursing school in Grand Rapids and obtained her nursing degree.
On August 24, 1951 she married the love of her life, Don Bosscher. Together they raised a family of 9 children with love, faith and devotion. Her life revolved around family, home and their family farm. She not only took care of the family but worked on the farm milking, raising large gardens, canning, freezing, baking and feeding all hired hands. She made wedding cakes for her children and others.
With Eleanor’s gift of hospitality, her home was a welcoming place. Whenever someone showed up she stopped what she was doing and took the time to sit with a cup of coffee and a fresh baked cookie and visit for as long as they needed. No one was a stranger at Eleanor’s table.
She put her passion of helping others to great use at the age of 50 by putting her nursing degree to work. She entered the workforce and started doing Home Health Care Nursing. She worked in this career for 27 years, helping many, many homebound people.
When her family was young there were always clothes that needed mending so she mastered sewing. As the family grew up and time allowed, Eleanor became interested in quilting and conquered that art. She made many beautiful quilts and blessed the grandchildren with one as a wedding gift. The grandchildren and great grandchildren were given baby quilts also. With her giving heart she made many quilts for Service Day at Rehoboth Church to be given to charity. For 21 years Don and Eleanor enjoyed spending winters in Arizona. Eleanor was an active member of Rehoboth Reformed Church.
Eleanor leaves behind great examples of love, joy, strong faith, laughter and hospitality. She is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Donald; her sister Joyce (Ed) Van Houten; her children: Rich (Beth) Bosscher, Mike (Vickie) Bosscher, Jim (Cindy) Bosscher, Daughter in Law Patti Bosscher, Dave (Mary) Bosscher, Larry (Ruby Diane) Bosscher, Karen (Greg) Koster, Greg (Shelly; Fiancé) Bosscher, Jerry Bosscher.
