Obituary For Edward J. Gillow

Edward J Gillow, age 66, of Lake City, Michigan passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2025 at Munson Medical Center. Edd was born on April 20,1959 in Cadillac, MI to Howard and Eleanor Gillow. As a graduate of Lake City High School, he shared a deep love for his home town of Lake City. Whether it was swimming, skiing, snowmobiling or ice fishing, he always found a way to enjoy Lake Missaukee. He spent many seasons giving back to the community by volunteering at Missaukee Mountain. Edd spent the majority of his adult life working as a skilled carpenter who took great pride in his work. His craftsmanship and attention to detail could be seen in every project that he worked on. Edd shared a love for a good scratch-off lottery ticket, rock-and-roll music, rolling cigarettes, and of course hunting and fishing. He wasn’t afraid to live life to the fullest, testing every limit placed in front of him and pushing boundaries to embrace his boldness.

Edd is survived by his four children: Katie (Kurt) Clennan of Modesto, CA, Mindy (Jarred) Kelley of Kingston, TN, Jacob Gillow of Salt Lake City, UT, and Zackary Gillow of Mount Pleasant, MI; Grandchildren: Kadis and Krosby Cleannan of Modesto, CA, Mason and Emma Simpson and Hadley and Harper Kelley of Kingston, TN; Siblings: Pamela (Robert) Hill, Julie (Joe) Dill, Beverly (Mark) Stebner, Valerie (Rick) McLeod, Jim (Leslie) Gillow, step-sister Libby LaGoe and step-brother Tom (Susan) LaGoe; sister-in-law Sandy Gillow and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eleanor and Howard Gillow, step-father Francis LaGoe, brother Dennis Gillow, daughter Rachel (Gillow) Simpson and son Edward Francis Gillow.

Graveside services will be held at Lake City Cemetery on Saturday, November 22 at 1 p.m. and a memorial luncheon immediately following for close friends and family at the Missaukee Mountain Lodge. The family is being served by the Burkholder Family Funeral Home in McBain. Thoughts and prayers can be expressed to the family by visiting the online obituary at burkholderfamilyfuneralhome.com

We were married 26 yrs. Had our share of highs and lows as is the norm. I have tons of memories with him and am grateful for our kids. I'll always think of him when I pass a tree field, sit on the Banks of lake missaukee, cheer for U of M, hear classic Rock ,pass by missaukee mountain or watch a corny old western. He was set in his ways but he loved his family. He was a good worker and would help U out without hesitation. He loved the outdoors and I know he is with God, his mom, Rachel and Eddy. Rest in peace Edd and even though our marriage failed, I still consider you a friend and I thank you for the good we did share. I will miss you.

Lifetime Friend, he helped me square and set poles this summer for my garage addition. I feel sad and relieved at the same time, he was so tired of fighting and dealing with doctors and hospitals, he is at peace finally. God speed my friend.
