Gordon (Gordy) W. Carmichael

Gordon (Gordy) W. Carmichael, 83, of Cadillac finished his final full pull and has left this dirt track for one made of gold. He is now cultivating greener pastures and bussing angels in heaven. Gordy passed away in his home surrounded by family and friends. Gordy was born and raised in the Evart area to Edwin and Edith (Netcher) Carmichael. He graduated from Evart High School in 1953 and proudly served in the Great Lakes Naval Reserves from 1952-1960. He married Georgia May Wheeler on June 16, 1956 and had four daughters. He accepted Christ in 1969 and then married Donalyn Jean (Bruinix) April 3, 1971 and had a son and a daughter. His first job was driving truck for Grow Solvent Company out of Detroit and he took over the family farm in 1987. He also worked at Ina Store, started Gordy’s Small Engine Clinic, and drove school bus in Evart for 22 years. He enjoyed swimming, sports, deer hunting, farm stock, antique and garden tractor pulling, drag racing and dirt track, big motors, fast cars, three-wheeling, snowmobiling, card games, camping, singing, and was a fierce competitor in everything. He has been an active member of the Church. He has served faithfully and zealously as a board member, Sunday School Superintendent, trustee, youth leader, choir member, and song leader. He thoroughly enjoyed chasing after all of his 53 grandchildren’s, events and singing at nursing homes with the Highlandairs. He was preceded in death by his parents Edwin Campbell and Edith (Netcher) Carmichael, Sister Catherine Lemon, and Brothers Dale and Donald Carmichael. He is survived by his wife Donalyn (Bruinix), daughter Diana Carmichael, Tanya (David) May, Donna (Russ) Downs, Lisa (Terry) Salisbury, Chad (Darcy) Carmichael, Charity (Doug) Ingleright, 30 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, sister Doris (Andy) Salinas, Joan (Elmer) Ledbetter and sister in-law Marge Carmichael and many other family and friends. In true Gordy fashion, he beat us there. There will be a victory party and he wants to see you there! Services will be held at Sears Church of God on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at 3 P.M. with visitation taking place an hour prior, with Chad and Kaleb Carmichael officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018 from 4-6 P.M. at the Sears Church of God. A luncheon will follow after the service in the downstairs fellowship hall. RIP Uncle Gordy. Aunt Donalyn, Chad, Charity, and the rest of Gordy's family: know that we are thinking of you during this difficult time. Love the obituary and the positivity of a "victory party" for a life well-lived. I have still-fresh memories from my childhood of spending multiple weeks at the farm every summer! It was a side of life that I got to experience only because my uncle Gordy was a dairy farmer. "Helping" milk the cows at 4 am (like only a 10 year old can help), actually helping to birth a calf with my arm inside that mother cow all the way to my shoulder, clearing fields of rocks in the hot summer sun, riding around on the 3-wheeler, and Gordy constantly trying to get me to touch the electric fence. His sense of humor was ever present. Our contact became more sporadic over the years after I moved away as an adult, but Donalyn has been great about maintaining contact and keeping us up-to-date on the happenings in the Carmichael family. it is clear that he was loved and respected by his family, and he will be missed. With love from Ashland, Oregon, Rick, Lisa and Irie

Doug and Melinda
