Verna Jean Baas

Verna Jean Baas, age 86 of Falmouth, passed away on May 31, 2018 at the Pleasant Ridge Assisted Living at Marion. She was born on June 19, 1931 in Riverside Township, Missaukee County, to William and Hattie (Stryker) Dieterman. She married Garry Baas on March 3, 1951 at the Calvin Christian Reformed Church Parsonage. He preceded her in death on May 27, 2010. Verna was a member of the Aetna Christian Reformed Church and a member of the Ladies Bible Study. She had worked for the Chemical Bank in the courtesy department and as a bookkeeper and at the Falmouth Co-Op in the bookkeeping department. She volunteered as a mentor with children at the McBain Public School and at the Northern Michigan Christian School. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, and gardening. She is survived by her children, Dean Baas of Hickory Corners and Duane (Shawna) Baas of McBain. She has one daughter in law, Carol (Les) VanDrie of McBain, five grandchildren, Bill Baas, Katelyn Baas, Jayna Baas, Bethany Baas, and Maralee Baas all of the McBain area, and a great granddaughter, Annika Baas of McBain. Her surviving siblings are, Mort Dieterman of McBain, Wilma Dodde of Howard City, and Julia Dieterman of Mexico and her in-laws are Kaye Noorman of Grand Rapids and Henrietta Baas of Grand Rapids.  She was preceded in death by her son, Douglas Baas and siblings and in-laws, Trena Dieterman, Marvin Dodde, Marve Noorman, Cal Baas, and Elmer and Jean Doll. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 11:00 the Aetna Christian Reformed Church with Dr. Ben Townsend officiating. Burial will take place in the Prosper Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Burkholder Family Funeral Home in McBain and one hour prior to the services at the church.
