Geneva Dodde

Geneva (Comdure) Dodde passed away on January 21, 2018 at Belle Oakes Living Center. She was 97. Geneva was born on December 4, 1920 on the banks of the Mosquito Creek near Falmouth, Michigan to Albert and Sena (Zigter) Comdure. Her eight siblings have preceded her in death. Some of her fondest memories were playing in and around that creek, going to her beloved Silver Creek School and taking music lessons. Learning was important to her and she made that a priority for all her children. After leaving home in her teens she moved to Grand Rapids to work and on one of her visits back to Falmouth she met Harm Dodde who would become her husband. After marrying Harm on June 16, 1945 in Vogel Center, Michigan, Harm and Geneva moved to the family farm and raised their family of seven children. Surviving her are Duane (Ellie) Dodde of Falmouth, Harold (Ruth) Dodde of Falmouth, Shirley (Gil) Brown of Lake Odessa, Ivan (Lori) Dodde of Lake City, Carl (Marjon) Dodde of Lake City, and Ruthann McCann of Fenton (special friend Robert Kilpatrick). Geneva leaves behind her surviving children and 20 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Her husband Harm, son Mark, granddaughter Jennie Sue, and son- in law Scott McCann preceded her in death. Geneva was the postmaster in Falmouth for many years. During her years of employment and after her retirement she was an avid reader, enjoyed learning about and creating many kinds of hand crafted items, completing word puzzles, listening to music, and playing the piano. She also enjoyed bowling, golfing, cross country skiing, playing golf, and roller skating. She was a life –long learner. She was passionate about her volunteer activities which included mission trips with her church, volunteering at Friendship Family Home in McBain, the Cooperative Ministries, and Friendship Bible Classes.  The family wishes to thank Belle Oakes Living Center for the care they provided during her final years. Staff members and residents were her second family. We would also like to express our appreciation to Hospice of Michigan for helping to make her final days as comfortable as possible. Funeral services will be at the Prosper Christian Reformed Church at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday with visitation starting at 11:00 A.M. Reverend Dirk Koetje will officiate and burial will take place in the Prosper Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan or Cooperative Ministries. Burkholder Family Funeral Home in McBain is in charge of the funeral arrangements and thoughts and prayers may be left at www.burkholderfamilyfuneralhome.com
