Don M. Boersma

Don M. Boersma went to his Heavenly home on Saturday, June 24, 2017 surrounded by those who loved him.
He was born to Mel and Maude Boersma on October 03, 1944. After graduating high school he married his high school sweetheart, Gloria Johnson Boersma. Together they shared many happy years of marriage on the farm and raised two wonderful children whom he was very proud of and loved dearly.
Don worked at Cadillac Malleable Iron and Herrud Meat Company before returning to his real passion of farming on the Boersma Family Farm. He was also owner of Wexford Plaza and enjoyed each and every day working with his son, Michael, in the family business.
He enjoyed many things throughout his life such as playing hockey, dirt bike racing, and snowmobiling. His CHS classmates and reunions were important to him along with family history, Red Wing hockey, coffee and hockey games with brother Tom; Christmas tree cutting with brother Marv; and his daily stops at Blue Heron and Payne Tire to visit with Joe, Al, Howard, Pastor Will, Rob and Tom.
Don was the solid rock and foundation of his family and will forever be loved and missed by his life partner and wife, Gloria; daughter Robin Sue Williams; son Michael Mel Boersma (Brenda); granddaughters Taylor and Jenna Williams, and Alexa Boersma; grandsons Noah and Caleb Outman, and his little buddy Lucas Don Boersma.
He is survived by brothers Marvin (Sally), Jon (Donna), and Tom (Vicky); brothers and sisters-in-law Ron and Chris Johnson, Ken and Gen Hendricks, and Jan and Gene VanPelt along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mel and Maude Boersma, in-laws Lawrence and Dorothy Johnson, and his sister JoAnn Hendricks.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at the Cherry Grove Nazarene Church on M55 West at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 8 with Pastors Brian Farmer and Will Markham officiating. His final resting place will be Mount View Cemetery in McBain, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the Cherry Grove Nazarene Church, Revival Center of Cadillac, or charity of one’s choice.
A very special thank you to nurses Lisa, Amber, and Dodie who gave Don such wonderful care while he was hospitalized. Also, a special thank you to our many friends and family who have provided an abundance of love and support during this difficult journey. Bless you.

Don & Gloria, Mike & Robin were my second family when I was growing up. I remember Don being such a hard worker but always being home for dinner cracking a joke to make me feel at home. Don was always so nice to me and was a major reason for the good memories I have of the Boersma family.

Uncle Don always had a special place in my heart. Growing up, I remember him always teasing me about how did I feed the 40 horses that powered the speed boat. So many great holiday memories to list. Hugs and love to Aunt Gloria, Robin, Mike, and family. He will be greatly missed.

I have few words of comfort but I do have many wonderful memories of the Boersma home. Spending the night as a kid, which is how I got my famous nickname of "midnight" because often I wouldn't get there until after my chores so it was in the evening. Swimming at the lake, playing all day, getting ice-cream treats from the freezer, taking the boat out on the lake. It was a home filled with love and I feel blessed to have been so welcomed there on such a regular basis. Our families forever will be connected. Knowing Robin since we both were toddlers, growing up together, going to school together, Don and my dad and brother sharing farming stories and lending each other a hand. Don being a pallbearer at my Dad's funeral. The list goes on... And Robin, my mom told me the story numerous times about how your Dad came to pick you up from the house and he went to the back door (back entrance by the back yard) and mom always said how polite he was (I think that might have been the first time she met him) and how much he doted on you! In my mom's words "how much he adored that baby girl". Thank you for the wonderful memories. I'm so saddened by this loss. My heart goes out to all of you at this time. Don was a wonderful man!
