Jay Bronkema

Jay Bronkema of McBain passed away May 25, 2017 at Munson Healthcare of Cadillac at the age of 82. He was born December 25, 1934 in Riverside Township to Henry and Harriet (Herweyer) Bronkema. On January 25, 1952 he married Donna Wickliffe at the family home in McBain, she survives him.
Jay worked as a truck driver for the Missaukee County Road Commission, had worked at Chris Craft, Cotter Oil, a grocery store and had a traveling tack shop. He was a member of a quartet, enjoyed taking his great-grandchildren for gator rides and was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers. Jay enjoyed spending time with family on the family farm, working on various projects and loved to deer hunt.
Jay is survived by his wife Donna (Wickliffe) Bronkema of McBain; children  Judy May (Joseph) Robertson of Florida, Herb (Mary) Bronkema of McBain and Joel (Lori) Bronkema of McBain; seven grandchildren Jason (Holly) Stroh, Sara (Brian) Kitzmiller, Ryan Bronkema, Andy (Jenae) Bronkema, Katie Bronkema and Brian, Luke (Becky) Bronkema, Emily (Steve) Michalak and several great- grandchildren. Jay is also survived by his siblings Bill (Ruth) Bronkema of Greenville, Ken Bronkema of Harrison, James (Kathy) Bronkema of Traverse City, Randall (Beth) Bronkema of North Carolina, Joani (Nick) Terpstra of Orange, CA; brother in-law Paul (Patricia) Wickliffe of Bonita Springs, FL, many nieces and nephews and special friend Phyllis VanderVlucht of McBain.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, brother Eugene (Francis) Bronkema, granddaughter Sally Ann Bronkema and sister in-law Dorthy (Bruce) McNally.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 29 at Northland Community Church with Rev. David Smith officiating. Visitation will be from 12 Noon until the time of the service at the church.
