CADILLAC- Rosetta Marie Cowley passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 16, 2017, at Munson Medical Center in Cadillac. She was 77.
Born in Cadillac, Michigan, to Lester Baldwin Sr. and Iva (Hall) Baldwin on March 18, 1940, she never left the city she loved.
She is survived by sons, Thomas (Kelly) Baldwin of Jenison, Michigan, and Terry Baldwin of Cadillac. Having married Richard Lesley Cowley on November 2, 1968, she is also survived by stepchildren: Richard Jr. (Chris) of Cadillac, Jerry Cowley of Cadillac, Sharon Cowley of Cadillac, Janet Cowley of Cadillac and Carla (Brian) Kederis of Glendale, Kentucky. She was also a grandmother and great-grandmother many times over including twins due in the fall of 2017. She also leaves behind sisters: Shirley Patterson of Cadillac, Thelma Jones of Cedar Springs and Stanley (Bonnie) Baldwin of Clearwater, Florida.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; daughter TJ (Larsen); stepson, James Cowley; brothers: Milton, Donald, Lester Jr., James, Robert, Buddy; and sister, Dorothy.
As an active member of the American Legion Post 94 Auxiliary (42 years) and the Amvets Post 110 (42 years), she was well-known and loved by all in both organizations. She will be fondly remembered for her tireless volunteer work as she was always busy raising money for special causes, helping organize events or gathering items, such as hats/gloves or school supplies for area school children. She will also be remembered for never getting a driver’s license which is why you would see her walking everywhere and, in recent years, riding her bike.
Following her wishes, a cremation has taken place and a short celebration of life service has been scheduled for noon on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at the American Legion Hall, located at 422 North Mitchell Street, Cadillac, MI 49601. A light lunch will follow directly after the ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, Rosetta asked that donations be made to any cancer organization that you support.
