Gertrude Marcus, age 91, of McBain, went home to be with the Lord on April 2, 2017, at Autumnwood of McBain. She was born on May 1, 1925, to Evert & Anna (Ensing) Bekken in Richland Township, Missaukee County. She married Claude Marcus on Aug. 6, 1948, at the McBain Presbyterian Church. He preceded her in death on June 12, 2011.
Gert was a member of the Lucas Rehoboth Reformed Church and for many years an active member of the McBain Presbyterian Church. She had worked at the B.F. Goodrich in Cadillac for many years. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, baking and cooking. She really enjoyed having house dogs.
She is survived by four children, Sherie (Alvin) Thomsen of Cadillac, Vickie (Mike) Bosscher of McBain, Bob (Donna) Marcus of McBain, and Lori (Jerry) Veltema of McBain. She has several grandchildren, Nathan (Jennifer) Thomsen, Ashley (Agostino) Magliano, Rachelle (Kevin) Boven, Anna (John) Goodrich, Tyler (Megan) Scholten, Brett (Nicole) Scholten, Scott (Jodi) Joseph, Todd Bosscher, Steven (Ann) Schryer, Scott (Jamie) Schryer, Shawn (Christy) Marcus, Katie (Ryan) Putvin and Kyle (Trisha) Veltema. She also has 28 great grandchildren; Brothers Ed Bekken of McBain and Ken (Iva) Bekken of Marion. Gert has two special nieces Dee Briggs of McBain and Judith Fex of Grand Rapids; and two special nephews, Jay (Julie) Dick of McBain and Kenneth Knop of Tampa, Florida. She is also survived by one step sister, Dorothy Sheldon of Flint, one step brother, Harold (Pat) Elenbaas of Otsego, and a step sister in law, Joan Elenbaas of Bay City.
She was preceded in death by a son in law, Gary Scholten, sister, Fran Bekken and many Elenbaas family members.
Funeral services will be held on April 5, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Lucas Rehoboth Reformed Church with Rev. Adam Grill officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4P.M. to 8:00 P.M.at the Burkholder Family Funeral Home in McBain and one hour prior to the service at the church. A luncheon will follow the services and an internment service will be held at 1:30 P.M. at the Mount View Cemetery in McBain. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

Sorry to hear of Gert's passing. I enjoyed my coversations with her when I used to bring my dad, Bert, to McBain for the high school reunions. She was a sweet lady, and loved your dad with all her heart. May God be abundant with His peace and comfort to all.
